Initial Inspection/Disposal Criteria

Inspect for broken wires, rust or corrosion on any metal part, and cracks in the battery case, light bezel, or lens cover. Inspect for broken or missing components, O-Ring damage, battery leakage in the battery case, and dirt or damage to retention straps.
Return to stock if item has not been removed from plastic bag, is clean and appears to have not been used (inspect for batteries in battery case).
Refurbish item if easily cleaned and any missing or damaged components are available for replacement.
Dispose of item if missing or damaged components aren’t replaceable; if battery leakage is discovered; or if unit fails testing for performance.

Refurbishing Procedures

A. Cleaning

Wipe entire unit clean to include lamp housing, battery cam, and both sides of lens with soft cloth and mild soapy water.
Remove retention straps and hand wash with mild detergent, rinse and air dry. Reinstall.

B. Repair

Install new retention straps, battery case latch, and O-ring if required.
Lightly lubricate the O-ring and lens cap threads with silicone grease when necessary.
Salvage usable parts from unserviceable units when practical.

C. Testing for performance

Test unit with new batteries.
Test all light mode functions; if any bulb does not function, dispose of headlamp.
Test elasticity of retention straps; if defective, replace.
Check O-ring is present and pliable, replace as necessary.
Remove batteries prior to storage.

D. Repackaging

Individually package headlamp in plastic bag.
Package 50 each in NFES #002006 carton (23” x 19” x 10”).

Wildland Fire Module Unit

The NWCG Standards for Wildland Fire Module Operations, PMS 430 standardizes procedures and expectations for Wildland Fire Modules (WFMs). These standards are to be used by staff, supervisors, specialists, and technicians for planning, administering, and conducting WFM operations. These standards will also be used as a measure of WFM qualifications, capabilities, and expected performance, for both Type 1 and Type 2 WFMs.

The NWCG Standards for Airtanker Operations, PMS 514 establishes the standards for dispatching, utilizing, and coordinating airtankers on interagency wildland fires. These standards should be used in conjunction with the NWCG Standards for Aerial Supervision (SAS), PMS 505, NWCG Standards for Airtanker Base Operations (SABO), PMS 508, and any applicable agency plans.

Incident Position Standards and Next Gen Position Task Books Now Available for Dispatch Incident Positions

NWCG is excited to announce that Incident Position Standards and Next Generation Position Task Books are now available for all six Dispatch positions:

Aircraft Dispatcher
Expanded Dispatch Coordinator
Expanded Dispatch Recorder
Expanded Dispatch Supervisory Dispatcher
Expanded Dispatch Support Dispatcher
Initial Attack Dispatcher

The Performance Support Packages for these positions, including the Expanded Dispatch Job Aid, J-601 and the Initial Attack and Aircraft Dispatcher Job Aid, J-602, were developed as part of the Incident Performance and Training Modernization (IPTM) effort. These resources support trainees, qualified personnel, and evaluators in their roles.

Any changes to qualification pathways will take effect with the next update of the NWCG Standards for Wildland Fire Position Qualifications, PMS 310-1.
