Several errors were found in the September 2006 version of the S-390 course. The errors have been corrected by an errata sheet. Until stock in the warehouse is depleted, all instructor guides will contain a letter and CD with the errata edits. The course materials CD ROM (NFES 2933) will be replaced and available for order by the end of April 2007; this CD will be the complete, revised package 2nd Edition, February 2007.

An error has been found on the Student CD under “Pre-Course Work Study Material” in the topography.pdf file. The answer to question #2 under Topography Exercise Answers on page 15 should be 4160’.

Optional materials have been developed to enhance the students understanding of the Wildland Fire Decision Support System (WFDSS) relative to the Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior Calculations course. Instructors who choose to use the optional materials to enhance the course should be familiar with the lesson and its contents and determine how it will be used in the course. Updated NWCG Wildland Fire Risk and Complexity Assessment, PMS 236

The June 2024 update of the NWCG Wildland Fire Risk and Complexity Assessment, PMS 236, is now available to meet the current needs for incident management typing.

The NWCG Wildland Fire Risk and Complexity Assessment should be used to evaluate firefighter safety issues, assess risk, and identify the appropriate incident management organization based on incident complexity. Assessing risk, determining incident complexity, and identifying an appropriate incident management organization is a subjective process based on examining a combination of indicators or factors, which can change over time.
