Mission Statement

The S-520/620 Advanced Incident Management & Area Command Course Steering Committee (S520620CSC) provides national leadership in management of the S-520 and S-620 training courses.

Primary Objectives

  • Develop and maintain the S-520 training course based on Incident Management Team process, and Command and General Staff position standards.
  • Develop and maintain the S-620 training course based on Area Command team Incident Management Team process, and Command and General Staff position standards.
  • Provide input on IMT/Area Command Team process standards and the Command and General Staff position standards to the Incident and Position Standards Committee.
  • Assist NWCG Committees and Training Development Program with the development of job aids and other position performance support tools.
  • Coordinate and work cooperatively with the Complex Incident Management Course, (CIMC), Steering Committee to maintain equivalency, of CIMC and S-520 course learning outcomes.
  • Coordinate course delivery with the National Advanced Fire and Resource Institute (NAFRI).

NWCG Equipment Technology Committee Releases Safety Warning: 25-001 Non-specification fire shelters

The Equipment Technology Committee (ETC) has released Safety Warning: 25-001 Non-specification fire shelters. Non-specification fire shelters claiming to meet Forest Service (FS) fire shelter specification 5100-606 were first found in February of 2023. As of September 2024, non-specification shelters are again being advertised and sold on the open market.

This Safety Warning outlines details and recommended procedures to purchase FS specification shelters made with materials and components that meet performance criteria and toxicity testing requirements outlined in FS Specification 5100-606.

Paul Gleason Lead by Example Awards

Updated NWCG Standards for Water Scooping Operations, PMS 518

The NWCG Standards for Water Scooping Operations, PMS 518 establishes the standards for dispatching, utilizing, and coordinating water scooping aircraft on interagency wildland fires. These standards should be used in conjunction with the NWCG Standards for Aerial Supervision (SAS), PMS 505, and any local, state, or geographic/regional water scooping plans.
